The Villa Alarife School promotes an Active Methodology, in which a set of strategies generated by the teacher actively involves the student in significant learning experiences. Knowledge is built upon the abstraction of a previous knowledge, on the basis of which new knowledge is developed.
Through education we seek to shape individuals who are competent, responsible, balanced, open, respectful, caring, self-motivated and independent thinkers. Individuals with be ability to look within themselves to respond to the questions and challenges that life presents and are committed to their community and society.
Respect for the Student’s Interests
We respect our students’ spontaneity and create a favorable environment for the choice of subjects and strategies that facilitate learning and are in harmony with each student’s personal characteristics, respecting the different pace at which each student learns.
Based on the Student’s Experience
The students’ experiences outside of school are valued and incorporated into the classroom. The idea behind taking the students’ previous knowledge into account does not refer just to information, but also to the theoretical and practical background, and values and attitudes as a whole that influence each student’s way of thinking, feeling and acting in order to establish associations between what they already know and what they are learning.
Focus on Social Consciousness
We seek to develop our students’ social consciousness, in order to ensure they will be able to interact well in their family, community, work, etc.
Redefining the Teacher’s Role
In this new methodology, the teacher facilitates and drives learning. Their role is functional, that is, it should be emotional, analytical, critical, creative, productive, formative, orienting, guiding, facilitating, designing, investigating, etc.
